TYPES OF PROJECTS THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTS

Guided by our mission, the Foundation is eager to explore new frontiers and to promote more effective teaching in Ohio's primary and secondary secular schools. We support a wide variety of programs for students and teachers, from preschool through high school. Some preference is given to programs that target under-served student populations and districts with fewer available resources.

We are most interested in funding programmatic aspects of projects, rather than capital needs, such as technology equipment, furniture, or books. Thus, we will give greater consideration to grant requests that show minimal expenditures for capital needs.

The Foundation does not make grants for capital improvements, indirect costs, overhead, personal travel to workshops or conferences, endowment campaigns, teacher stipends, general school supplies, substitute coverage, school bus transporation, incentives, refreshments, or graduate study. A request for the purchase of all technology equipment is not a priority, however, if considering the purchase of a Whiteboard, please study the list of questions in "About The Foundation".

Jennings Grants-to-Educators Program (note new form)
This program enables educators to submit proposals for grants up to $3,000. The Grants-To-Educators program supports the foundation’s basic objective of recognizing and encouraging outstanding classroom or school programs for secular schools in Ohio. The original form and nine copies need to be submitted.

Jennings Open Grant Program (note theme requirements)
These grants are available to Ohio secular school districts, universities that support these school districts, and 501(c)(3) organizations that contribute toward improving these elementary and secondary schools. There is no prescribed application form for open grant proposals. However there is a suggested open grant format to follow. Only an original should be submitted.

HOW PROPOSALS ARE CONSIDERED

The Foundation's Board of Directors and Distribution Committee, which are comprised of representatives from education and business, carefully considers each open grant proposal according to the evaluation criteria outlined in this brochure. The Board of Directors do not meet during the months of February, July, October, or December.

Action on the applications is generally communicated within two months of submission. Requests must be in the Foundation office by the 20th of the month preceding the month in which they are to be considered.

The Distribution Committee meets monthly, with the exception of July and December to review Grants to Educators.

Applications for Grants-to-Educators (up to $3,000) can be accessed here.
