Award Nominations

Teacher Awards

To Superintendents nominating teachers for these awards:

We are pleased to offer your district the opportunity to participate in four award programs that recognize outstanding classroom teachers. Each award is in the amount of $7,500 payable to the district in the winner’s name. Candidates must have seven years of experience as an Ohio teacher, except team teaching candidates who must have three or more years of experience.

  1. Arthur S. Holden Teacher Award for Excellence in Science Education is in honor of our Foundation’s founder. It is to be used for a science project to benefit students in the recognized teacher’s classroom, school, and/or district.
  2. George B. Chapman, Jr. Teacher Award for Excellence in Mathematics Education is in honor of our Foundation’s past Chairman. It is to be used for a mathematics project to benefit students in the recognized teacher’s classroom/ school, and/or district.
  3. Master Teacher Award is to be used for a project to benefit students in the recognized teacher’s classroom, school, and/or district.
  4. Team Teaching Award is to be used by a team of teachers for a project to benefit students in the recognized teacher team’s classrooms, schools, and/or district. Deep Learning must be the objective of the clearly defined team. The team can be one engaged in co-teaching, team teaching, and/or coaching models, etc. .

Nomination Process

All candidates must be nominated by their Superintendent via a letter uploaded in the award application. Superintendents are encouraged to nominate teachers for each of the four awards. Please have the candidate click the “Award Application” button below. They will be directed to the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation’s login/application page. In order to proceed they will need to create a school district (head of organization) login account by clicking on Create a New Account.

Once the account has been set up, teachers can complete the appropriate award application online. Your letter of recommendation and one from the candidate’s immediate supervisor/administrator can be uploaded into the application.

All applications must be completed and submitted online by April 13, 2017.

Selection Process

A representative committee of educators will select the teachers to be honored. Only one teacher and one team will be recognized as the Ohio award winner at our Jennings Educators Retreat in July. However, the Foundation will recognize up to an additional five teachers or teams under each award category. Those teachers will receive a $3,000 Grant-to-Educators towards funding their proposed project and be listed on the Foundation’s website as excellent teachers in their designated category.

Outstanding Superintendent Award

To Board Presidents Nominating a Superintendent:

We are pleased to offer your district the opportunity to nominate the superintendent for the Ohio Superintendent Outstanding Performance Award. The $10,000 award will be payable to the school district in the winner’s name. Candidates must have five years of experience as an Ohio Superintendent of Schools and must have served in his or her current position for at least two years. The candidate must have a Master’s Degree and appropriate certification by the State of Ohio.

Nomination Process

All candidates must be nominated by their School Board President via a letter uploaded in the award application. Please have the candidate click the “Award Application” button below. They will be directed to the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation’s login/application page.
